On Monday, OpenAI introduced its newest artificial intelligence model, GPT-6.1 Terra. The company says the model is designed to let people use computers quickly and effectively on a large scale.

OpenAI called GPT-6.1 Terra a “significant step up” from GPT-5.6 Terra. The company said the new model is especially good at communication and tasks done on computers, such as writing proposals, understanding technical drawings, filling in forms, and editing videos. GPT-6.1 Terra also costs 50% less to use through the standard API than GPT-5.6 Terra and GPT-6.1 Sol. This lower price can help developers automate large amounts of work.

“In ChatGPT Work and Codex, your plan goes further with GPT-6.1 Terra—the same usage allowance covers more tasks than with GPT-5.6 Terra and substantially more than with GPT-6.1 Sol or GPT-6 Astra,” OpenAI explained.

GPT-6.1 Terra is starting to become available today to Plus, Pro, Enterprise, and Edu users in ChatGPT Work and Codex. Developers can also use it through the OpenAI API. Standard prices are $1 for every 1 million input tokens, $0.05 for every 1 million cached input tokens, and $5 for every 1 million output tokens.

Separately, OpenAI competitor Anthropic (ANT) filed a Form S-1 on Monday as the company prepared for its initial public offering.
