Funds holding a slice of Anthropic are drawing inflows. SpaceX déjà vu?
Funds that invest in exchange-traded funds (ETFs) with some exposure to Anthropic are seeing more money flow into them, Bloomberg Intelligence ETF analyst Eric Balchunas wrote on X.
This trend began after Anthropic ANT filed paperwork for an initial public offering (IPO) on Monday. This made Anthropic the first leading AI research company to officially file to sell shares to the public. Balchunas compared the situation with SpaceX SPCX, but noted that more investment products now give people a way to invest in Anthropic.
Anthropic, led by CEO Dario Amodei, filed its S-1 registration document with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission on Monday morning, during a period when AI-related stocks have been moving up and down sharply. The company's shares will be listed on the Nasdaq Global Select Market under the ticker symbol “ANT.”
The company has not yet decided how many Class A common shares it will offer or what price range it will set. Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley will lead the IPO as underwriters.
Balchunas said that most of the funds' investments in Anthropic come through special-purpose vehicles or swaps. He added that ETFs are increasingly holding investments in private companies, with this becoming more common each month.
