Anthropic (ANT) said late Wednesday that it is working with the U.S. federal government to help more government agencies use Claude.

Under a deal with the General Services Administration, Anthropic will offer Claude Enterprise, Claude for Government, and the Claude API at a 40% discount, the company said in a statement. The discount applies to all ways of buying these products, including directly from Anthropic or through cloud providers. It is also available to state, local, tribal, and territorial governments.

"About 500 U.S. federal, state, and local government organizations now use Claude. The number of active weekly users of Claude for Government is about eight times higher than it was in February, and use across federal civilian agencies has grown about 20 times in one year," Anthropic said in a statement. "These organizations run some of the country's most important systems, often with limited budgets and long buying processes. This agreement is designed to support their work and help them use Claude to solve difficult problems without having to pay a large amount upfront."

The company, led by CEO Dario Amodei, added that the deal is expected to save the government $1B. Government agencies do not have to promise to spend a minimum amount. They can pay only for what they use.

Earlier this week, Anthropic released its first S-1 filing as it prepares to become a publicly traded company.
