Anthropic and SpaceX Could End Up Raising More Capital Than Every IPO of 1999 Combined

SpaceX and Anthropic are raising so much money that, together, they could raise more than all the companies that went public during the internet boom.
That is true even after adjusting the old figures for inflation.
This is the opposite of what happened during the dot-com boom. In 1999, investors could choose from hundreds of exciting new stocks. Today, much of the money is going into just a few very large deals.
Twenty-seven years ago, 476 US companies went public and raised $65 billion. That amount would be worth about $130.7 billion in 2026 dollars.
Now consider that SpaceX raised $85.7 billion in June, including extra shares sold through its over-allotment option. This made it the largest initial public offering (IPO) ever.
Anthropic, which filed paperwork to go public on Monday, hopes to raise as much as $100 billion.
If Anthropic raises anything close to that amount, the two deals together would bring in more money than all the US IPOs of 1999 combined.
