Broadcom Chief Helped Seal $63B Anthropic Debt Deal: WSJ
Anthropic will lease special chips made by Broadcom.
Broadcom CEO Hock Tan stepped in to help finalize a $63 billion debt deal with Anthropic, the Wall Street Journal reported on October 28, 2026.
The funding will allow Anthropic to lease AI chips developed by Broadcom and Alphabet’s Google.
Broadcom makes computer chips. It was founded by Orange County billionaires Henry Samueli and Henry T. Nicholas III. The company started in Irvine and is now based in Palo Alto.
Anthropic, which is based in San Francisco, said in a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) that it could issue up to $42 billion in total convertible promissory notes to Broadcom if needed. These are promises to repay borrowed money that may be converted into company shares.
Anthropic's planned public stock offering could become the largest public stock offering ever.
