WASHINGTON (TNND) — Grocery store chain Kroger said it would be laying off 3,000 corporate employees over the next few years as the chain begins to increase its usage of artificial intelligence.

“Technology is reshaping what’s possible,” CEO Greg Foran said in a memo earlier this week. “The way work gets done is changing across every industry; we must adapt and take advantage of technology. We need to adopt capabilities, reduce duplicative work and look closely at where work is best fit to be done.”

Kroger said that how the grocery store chain uses artificial intelligence will improve customer service.

Kroger is based out of Cincinnati, Ohio and is the largest standalone supermarket chain, according to The Hill newspaper.

This comes amid concerns of artificial intelligence taking American jobs.

Kroger recently announced a new uniform rollout for employees who work at the store.

Employees at the store now have to wear a Kroger logo T-shirt or polo in blue, red or black, depending on the division where they work.

“Associates appreciate the fit and the cohesive look, and customers are telling us our teams are easier to find,” a spokesperson said in response to the change.
