Anthropic reports that junior hiring has fallen as its workforce has grown, while employees are spending more time in meetings. The company says AI has boosted productivity, but human attention and coordination remain important constraints.

A report published by Anthropic on Friday describes changes in the company’s workforce and work over the past year. Anthropic says its experience could offer clues about “how AI will shift work organization, hiring, and labor demand across the economy,” particularly because it “has thoroughly molded its workflows around AI.” The report also offers a snapshot of how the company operates, even if other organizations do not adopt AI as extensively or in the same way.

This is reported by TechCrunch.

The share of junior-level employees in Anthropic’s technical departments has fallen from 21% to 14% since early 2025. Among technical hires, the junior share dropped from 27% to 9%. Technical teams now make up 56% of the company’s workforce, down from 61%. Anthropic attributes that shift to the “natural expansion of business functions as the company scales” and to “coding tools increasingly allowing non-technical employees to make software themselves.”

One employee reportedly described an “eternal pressure at Anthropic to move as fast as possible and use Claude for everything.” In an April 2026 survey, 27% of employees said Claude had made them more productive, while 20% said their job had shifted “from actually doing work to managing Claudes.” One employee apparently compared the experience to babysitting: “When you are babysitting, every child brings to you concerns with an equal demand for your attention and the various [Claudes] also do that.”

The report says “human attention and judgement” are becoming a productivity “bottleneck” as Claude generates a “deluge” of text that people must read and organize. Anthropic says AI adoption has increased productivity, citing “more code per person, closing more sales per rep, and processing more contracts.” The company cautions that “more code does not necessarily mean better code or business impact,” but says it has found no indication that code quality is declining.

Calendar data show that meeting time per employee is up 20% from a year ago, and up 16% for technical contributors. Anthropic links the increase to the importance of “human trust and accountability,” saying employees repeatedly describe “face-to-face coordination as indispensable.”
