Rankpage Launches ChatGPT Ads Management for Malaysian Brands
Rankpage, a Malaysian agency that works with artificial intelligence (AI) and search engine optimisation (SEO), has launched its ChatGPT Ads Management service. The service aims to help businesses reach customers through ads that appear in conversations.
The launch follows OpenAI's decision to expand access to its self-service Ads Manager in Southeast Asia. This allows eligible businesses in both markets to create and manage advertising campaigns within ChatGPT.
OpenAI's Ads Manager Beta lets advertisers create campaigns based on their goals, budgets and target audiences. Advertisers can also use ad groups with “context hints” to describe the kinds of conversations where their products or services might be useful.
Rankpage will provide full support for ChatGPT advertising, including:
- Campaign planning
- Research into what customers want to achieve through conversations
- Writing ad messages
- Setting up campaigns
- Measuring results and making ongoing improvements
From Search Keywords to What People Want to Know
Advertising on ChatGPT works differently from traditional search advertising.
Google Search Ads usually start with a search question or keyword. In ChatGPT, a potential customer might send several messages to explain a problem, ask questions, compare choices and clarify what they need before deciding what to do.
This gives advertisers a chance to look beyond single search terms and understand the bigger goal behind a conversation and how a customer makes a decision.
Rankpage calls its approach a conversation-to-conversion strategy. It maps the questions customers might ask as they move from finding a problem to researching solutions, comparing providers and taking action.
For example, a manufacturer in Malaysia might not start by searching for a particular industrial supplier. Instead, the conversation might begin with questions about materials, product details, costs, rules that must be followed and how to choose a supplier. It could then lead to a business enquiry.
“We believe ChatGPT Ads is part of the future of digital advertising, and other AI platforms are likely to explore similar models,” said Riff Chen, Regional Manager of Rankpage.
“Conversational AI provides much deeper context around what someone is actually trying to achieve. For brands, the opportunity is to become relevant at the right stage of that decision-making process rather than focusing only on bidding for a keyword.”
Combining Paid AI Ads With Organic Visibility in AI
Rankpage believes businesses should treat ChatGPT advertising as one part of a wider strategy for appearing in AI-powered search.
The agency's AI search work looks at how people discover and understand brands. It aims to help businesses become easier to find and recognise in search experiences powered by AI.
This creates two different opportunities.
ChatGPT Ads give brands paid visibility in relevant conversations, while AEO (Answer Engine Optimisation) and GEO (Generative Engine Optimisation) aim to help brands appear naturally in AI-generated results and build their reputation as trusted sources.
However, the agency stresses that paid advertising does not buy organic recommendations.
“Advertising does not purchase a ChatGPT citation or recommendation,” Chen said. “Paid conversational advertising and organic AI visibility are separate, but they can complement one another as part of a wider search strategy.”
OpenAI also says that ads are separate from ChatGPT's answers and do not affect the responses users receive.
A New Advertising Channel for Malaysia
Conversational advertising may be useful for industries where customers usually do research before buying something or making an enquiry. These include business-to-business (B2B) services, professional services, software as a service (SaaS), education, property, eCommerce and other products and services that require careful consideration before purchase.
For businesses operating across Southeast Asia, campaigns can also take into account differences between markets, such as the questions customers ask, the words they use, the services they expect and how they make buying decisions.
Rankpage's goal is therefore about more than simply placing ads inside ChatGPT.
“Ranking on Google remains important, but search behaviour is evolving,” Chen added. “Brands have already seen the value of how customers search and make decisions through AI. Being part of a customer's answer is what makes you stand out, and we're here to make it happen.”
