5 daily routines where ChatGPT 6 beats Gemini, hands-down

I've used ChatGPT and Gemini on and off since they launched in 2022 and 2023, respectively.

Gemini has always had one clear advantage: it works inside other Google apps, such as Gmail and Docs. Apart from that, I never thought one was better than the other. That changed this month.

On October 8, OpenAI made GPT-6 available on the free plan. Free users get GPT-6 Luna, while paid users get GPT-6 Sol.

GPT-6 includes Intelligent UI, which can create charts, radio buttons, checklists, and other interactive features based on what you ask.

Meanwhile, a day later, Google changed its free plan to Gemini 3.5 Flash-Lite. This means you need a paid plan to use a more advanced model.

I gave both apps the same everyday tasks, and GPT-6 clearly did better at these five.

A day planner I can check off

I asked both apps to plan my Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. The schedule had to include writing an article, two calls, emails, a grocery run, lunch, and two breaks.

ChatGPT made a proper checklist with circles I could tap, a counter that said "0 of 13 complete," and a reset button.

Gemini's plan was a plain text list with "[ ]" boxes that I couldn't tap.

When I told both apps that my 3 p.m. call had moved to 4 p.m., they rearranged the whole day without scheduling two things at once. ChatGPT updated its interactive checklist in place, while Gemini still gave me plain text.

Interactive quiz cards that keep score

Next, I asked both apps to make a short quiz with five multiple-choice questions about Android privacy settings. I wanted the questions to appear one at a time, with a score that updated as I went.

ChatGPT gave me a quiz card with answer choices I could tap. The choices turned green when I picked the right answer and red when I picked the wrong one. It also gave a short explanation.

The final screen showed my score and had Try again and Next quiz buttons. It felt like using a small app inside the chat. Best of all, the questions appeared one by one, just as I had asked.

Gemini simply wrote a long block of HTML code without telling me what to do with it. That wasn't helpful at all.

Flashcards that really flip

Next, I asked for eight flashcards to help me learn basic Spanish greetings. I wanted to be able to flip each card and mark whether I got the answer right.

ChatGPT's interactive tool worked just as I hoped. I tapped a card to see the answer on the back, then used the ✓ and ✗ buttons to mark my answer right or wrong.

At the end, it showed my score and gave me a button to make more cards.

It's a handy way to fit in a few minutes of study without opening a separate study app.

Gemini said it had built a web app in a single file and gave me a button to open it. But when I tapped the button, my phone tried to load a Google sign-in page. It failed and sent me back to the chat.

This wasn't helpful either.

A packing list grouped into categories

Each section had its own count

I asked both apps for a packing checklist for a three-day work trip to Chicago in November. I would only bring carry-on luggage, and I wanted the list grouped by category.

ChatGPT split the list into sections such as travel essentials, work gear, clothing, and toiletries. Each section had its own counter.

It also had Check all and Reset all buttons, plus a bar showing overall progress.

People already use ChatGPT to plan an entire wedding, so making a packing list is a fairly simple task. What really impressed me was how the list was arranged.

Gemini also made a list with checkboxes. However, it put every item in one long column and wrote the category name before each item.

It worked, but the list was harder to scan while packing.

Price comparisons I can understand at a glance

Both got the math right, but only one made clear charts

To test how the apps handled numbers, I asked them to compare three cereal boxes with different sizes and prices, then rank them by value per ounce.

Both apps correctly chose the 24 oz box, which cost 23 cents per ounce.

ChatGPT showed colored bars, ranked the boxes from best to worst value, and gave a clear final answer.

Gemini's chart showed three white bars that were almost the same height, so I had to read the numbers to compare them.

I'd choose ChatGPT for interactive tools inside the chat

ChatGPT didn't win every test. Gemini was better at tasks that needed to happen on a schedule, such as sending a daily news summary at a specific time.

Gemini also created a Google Sheets file with checkboxes and a progress calculator when I asked it to make a habit tracker.

Meanwhile, ChatGPT gave the wrong answer twice in its summary when I asked it to compare simple phone plans, even though its own calculator showed the correct answer.

However, if you want an interactive tool that works right inside the chat, GPT-6 in ChatGPT is the clear favorite for now.

If you're also considering Claude, here's how ChatGPT compares with it after a month of testing both side by side.
