Axios counted about $235 billion in AI deals announced in one day, on 26 October 2026. The deals included Anthropic’s planned IPO, which Axios says could aim to raise a record $100 billion; SpaceX’s $40 billion financing deal to lease GPUs; and up to $95 billion in financing that Meta said it would seek to build its AI systems.

The three amounts are at different stages. Based on the companies’ own filings, our calculations show that $77.5 billion of the $235 billion had been priced or signed by 27 October: SpaceX had made a binding commitment for $40 billion, and Meta had priced stock offerings worth $37.5 billion. The other $157.5 billion is a possible target or financing that has not yet been used or offered.

This video explains the story using the published headlines in this article and five related FourWeekMBA articles.

The key point: The $235 billion is the total of announced amounts. Our calculations show that $77.5 billion had been signed or priced by 27 October. The largest single amount, Anthropic’s possible $100 billion IPO, does not yet have a set size or price.

What Axios Counted

Axios reporter Dan Primack wrote that Anthropic had filed for “what could be the biggest IPO ever, capping a massive day of AI dealmaking that nearly equals 1% of U.S. GDP.”

He listed three deals. Anthropic’s IPO “may seek to raise a record $100 billion.” SpaceX secured $40 billion in debt financing to lease GPUs. Meta said it would seek up to $95 billion in financing to build its AI systems. “Together, that’s roughly $235 billion in a single day,” Axios wrote.

Axios’s total of about $235 billion for 26 October 2026, divided by stage using our calculations. SpaceX’s $40 billion lease commitment is signed, according to its Form 8-K. Meta has priced $37.5 billion in offerings: $25.0 billion in common stock and 250 million depositary shares at $50 each, according to Meta’s pricing announcement. These amounts are signed or priced. Anthropic’s possible $100 billion IPO, reported by Axios, and $57.5 billion of the up to $95 billion that Meta plans to seek are targets, not completed offerings. Axios's roughly $235 billion AI dealmaking day of 26 October 2026, by stage (our split): Anthropic's IPO may seek $100 billion; Meta has $57.5 billion of its financing target not yet offered; SpaceX's $40 billion lease commitment is signed; Meta has priced $37.5 billion.
Axios’s roughly $235 billion total for AI deals on 26 October 2026, split by stage in our calculations. Anthropic’s IPO may seek $100 billion, according to Axios. Of Meta’s plan to seek up to $95 billion, $57.5 billion has not yet been offered. SpaceX’s $40 billion lease commitment is signed, according to its Form 8-K. Meta has priced $37.5 billion in offerings, according to its pricing announcement.

What Is Signed and What Is a Target

SpaceX: Its Form 8-K says that on 24 October, the company signed a binding commitment letter for a master finance lease with an entity managed by Apollo Global Management. SpaceX expects the total principal payments under the lease schedules to be about $40 billion. The filing says the lease must meet certain conditions before it can close. The company expects it to close before the end of the year. Payments under the lease schedules are expected to begin in the first half of 2027 as GPUs are delivered.

Meta: Its pricing announcement on 26 October says it priced $25.0 billion in Class A common stock at $625.00 per share, increasing the offering from $22.5 billion. It also priced 250,000,000 depositary shares at $50 each. Meta expects to receive about $12.5 billion in net proceeds from the depositary shares. Both offerings are expected to close on 29 October. The common stock is being sold through forward sale agreements, and Meta says it does not expect to receive any money from that stock sale at first.

Anthropic: The size of its IPO has not been set. Axios says the offering may seek $100 billion. As we reported earlier, the S-1 cover page leaves the number of shares and the price range blank.

Our calculation is $40 billion for SpaceX plus $37.5 billion for Meta’s two priced offerings, which equals $77.5 billion. The remaining $157.5 billion in Axios’s total consists of Anthropic’s possible $100 billion IPO and $57.5 billion of the up to $95 billion that Meta said it would seek but has not yet offered. These are different kinds of financing: a lease, common stock, and preferred stock. Adding them together shows the amounts announced, not the amount of cash received.

What Axios Left Out

On the same day, we reported that a separate company, called an SPV, would buy Broadcom chips and lease them to Anthropic in a $63 billion deal. Axios’s $235 billion total does not include this deal, and we do not add it to that total here.

Axios also says Anthropic has committed about $750 billion to computing power over the coming years. The S-1 notes we reviewed give two separate figures as of 30 June 2026: $265.6 billion in purchase commitments and $321.4 billion in leases that had not yet started. We reported these figures in our article about Anthropic’s leases for computing power that had not yet started rising to $321 billion from $50 billion. Axios does not explain how it calculated its $750 billion figure.

Connecting the Coverage

We have published separate articles about each deal in Axios’s total. On 26 October, we reported that SpaceX’s $40 billion GPU deal is a five-year finance lease with Apollo. On 27 October, we added that Pimco bought $4 billion of the deal, according to Bloomberg.

On 26 October, we reported that Meta launched a $35 billion stock sale and planned a $60 billion at-the-market offering. On 27 October, we reported that Nvidia would invest $3 billion in Meta stock as Meta added Rubin.

For Anthropic, we reported that its IPO includes public offers in Australia and five other places. We also reported that Anthropic’s net cash is $23 billion when its notes are included and $132 billion without them. Beyond these three deals, we reported that US investment-grade bonds had passed the record set in 2020 as AI companies borrowed more, and that Naver guaranteed 18.7 trillion won for a $9 billion AI factory with Nvidia. The new point in this article is the split between amounts already signed or priced and amounts that are still targets within Axios’s $235 billion total.

The Structural Read

In our view, the three deals use three different types of financing. SpaceX has a finance lease with an entity managed by Apollo. Meta is selling common stock through forward sale agreements and issuing preferred stock that must convert into common stock. Anthropic is planning to sell shares to the public.

In our view, signing a deal does not mean the money has already been paid. SpaceX’s Form 8-K says the lease is expected to close before the end of the year, with payments spread over five to five and a quarter years. Meta says it does not expect to receive money from its common stock sale at first.

In our view, Axios’s total leaves out the separate $63 billion deal for a company to buy Broadcom chips and lease them to Anthropic, which we reported on the same day. We keep it separate because it involves another company buying the chips and leasing them to Anthropic, rather than the three companies raising money directly.

Three Implications

FOR READERS OF THE HEADLINE NUMBER Of the roughly $235 billion Axios counted, our calculations show that $77.5 billion had been signed or priced by 27 October. The rest consists of Anthropic’s possible IPO and financing that Meta has said it may seek but has not yet offered.

FOR META SHAREHOLDERS Meta’s pricing announcement says the $25.0 billion common stock offering uses forward sale agreements. Meta does not expect to receive money from this sale at first.

FOR ANTHROPIC’S IPO Axios says the offering may seek $100 billion. As we reported, the S-1 cover page does not yet state the number of shares or the price range.

The Business Engineer Lens

This story connects to the Business Engineer framework called The AI Capex Map.

The framework argues that the race to spend money on AI infrastructure “is no longer a corporate spending cycle” but “a sovereign-scale financing problem dressed in tech-company clothing”. In other words, it says the money needed to build AI systems has become a problem on the scale of national economies, even though technology companies are leading the effort.

In our view, Axios’s deals from one day—a lease commitment, priced stock offerings, and an IPO filing—offer one snapshot of how this financing works. The framework was not written specifically about these deals.

What Is Not Established

Anthropic’s IPO size and price have not been set. The $100 billion figure is Axios’s estimate of what the offering may seek to raise. SpaceX’s lease has not closed, and its rate is set in the pricing terms. Meta has not yet offered the remaining part of its plan to seek up to $95 billion. As of 27 October, none of the three deals is complete.

The Bottom Line

Of the roughly $235 billion in deals Axios counted on 26 October, SpaceX’s $40 billion lease commitment and Meta’s $37.5 billion in priced offerings had been signed or priced, for a total of $77.5 billion by our calculations. Anthropic’s possible $100 billion IPO and the remaining part of Meta’s plan are still targets.

A note on sources: Axios’s $235 billion total and its three parts come from Dan Primack’s report dated 27 October 2026. SpaceX’s terms come from its Form 8-K dated 24 October 2026. Meta’s terms come from its pricing announcement dated 26 October 2026. Our split between signed or priced amounts and targets is based on our calculations.
